Totley Scouts successful at Loxley Cup, cooking competition
Totley Scouts sent a team, with Scouts from both the Monday and Friday Troops, to the Loxley Cup held recently and did brilliantly well. Loxley Cup is a cooking competition where each Group in Hallam District put forward a team of six Scouts to provide a three course meal. Each team has the same equipment and is supplied with the same ingredients to cook from the same recipe. This year the menu was Leek & Potato soup; Asparagus & Peas risotto; blueberry pancakes. Each dish has to be presented at a set time. As well as being marked on taste and presentation by two independent judges, further marks were given for teamwork, organisation and clearing up.
Marks were announced after the soup course and our Totley team were adjudged last- 7 points behind. However, they rallied on the courses and ended up joint first place with Fulwood Scouts. An excellent job done by all.
We spoke with Haochen, one of the Scouts who entered:
"I think that we did a good job in this competition, because of our excellent teamwork and resilience. When things weren’t going well, we were able to keep on going. This was particularly evident when we were making our risotto: we (or maybe someone from the scout institution) accidentally (or maybe on purpose) knocked over our food. We were able to find a solution to this problem. I think the outcome of this competition was reflecting on our teamwork and resilience."
Big thanks to Mick who was there supporting the Totley team, and to him and Chris for running the cooking nights recently to the Scouts well prepared.
