Totley Independent March 2023 article updating on Hut Refurbishments
We’re pleased to report that work has continued on the Scout hut over the past couple of months, with another internal wall being fully replaced and insulated, making the hut a much warmer place to be this winter. The new toilets have now had non-slip paint put onto the floors, making them even smarter. Next on the list is to replace the other internal wall and replace the front door. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in our recent application to the City Council’s ward pot for funds towards this work, and options for other grants that we can apply for are currently very limited. So we really need to get back to fundraising activities to help us get the money together to pay for any more building work.
As well as encouraging the young people in our Group to come up with their own ways of raising money (bake sales, sponsored silences and any other ideas they may have!), we’re also going to be holding a Spring Fun Day at the hut on Sunday 21st May. This will take place in the afternoon and will be open to the whole community. So if you’ve been wanting to have a look at what things are like inside the hut after all the work we’ve had done so far, why not pop in and have a look around? There will be food and activities to enjoy - and Totley's own jazz band Seven Hills Quintet will be providing live music, too. If any other local musicians are interested in coming along to play at the event too, please get in touch via totley1stscouts@gmail.com!
Further information about the fun day will be available on our recently updated website (https://www.215thtotleyscouts.co.uk/) and social media soon. Please look out for posters advertising this nearer the time - we’d love to see lots of you there!
If you’d like to do something to help us raise money in the meantime, our lottery is open to all, and there’s £100 to be won every month. Just email us at totleyscoutsdraw@gmail.com and we can get you set up with a ticket in the draw. Tickets are £5 each.
And you can help us by using Easyfundraising when you shop online. Every time you shop online via easyfundraising.com at one of the 7,400 participating retailers such as John Lewis, Amazon, and Booking.com, to name but a few, a donation will be made to our Group, without costing you a penny. Just download the app or go to https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/ and choose Totley 1st Scouts as the organisation you'd like to support.
