Totley Independent article January 2023 updating on our Scout Group

We welcome in a New Year and lots of exciting plans for our group in 2023.

We have all enjoyed a lovely Christmas break, we have renewed out batteries and all our sections are now back in action with a packed programme of activities.

The weather at this time of the year keeps us indoors more than usual but where possible we still try to get ourselves outside whenever we can. The Scouts started the term off with some outdoor cooking, although slightly soggy in the rain and have a great programme filled with badge work and learning new skills. The Patrol Leaders will get a chance to show their leadership skills off later in the term and plans are being made for some weekend and summer camps.

The Cubs have an action packed programme of activities which will see them completing two Acitvity Badges. We hope to get outside and do some star gazing towards our Astronomer Badge and we plan to use our DIY skills for make something for our DIY badge. Added to that we will be doing some work to earn the Scientist badge and finding out all about the Hindu festival Holi. We are also planning a Cubs Got Talent night so the young people can show off just how amazing they are.

Our Beaver Colonies also have lots planned and we are starting the term off by thinking of our feathered friends and how we can help to feed them during the cold winter months. We are also looking at the Experiment badge and doing some planning and building to earn the Builder badge.

In February we take 125 of our youngsters to The Deep in Hull for a sleepover which we are all very excited about and all the sections are busy organising their summer camps. How we long for some warmer weather now.

We have been delighted to welcome lots of new children into our group this term and the sections are all very full. The Scout section has particularly flourished this term and we are very much in need of a new Scout Leader to help with the running of the troops. If you think this may be something you would like to do or know of someone who may be interested please do get in touch with us to find out more information.
